NEWARK -- An elderly
man was killed after driving into the path of an oncoming ambulance
Tuesday morning, according to police.
Newark Police say 93-year-old Richard F. Little's car was struck by the
ambulance after he pulled out of a gas station on to Mt. Vernon Road
near N. 21st St. in Licking County at approximately 10:30 a.m.
According to reports obtained by ABC 6/FOX 28, the Critical Life
ambulance hit the right side of Little's car, almost cutting the vehicle
in two.
Brandy Tanner, who witnessed the crash, said she tried to help the
victims while waiting for emergency crews to arrive.
"The older man was bleeding," she said. "I tried to open both door and
then started pounding on the glass, hoping they would break."
Police say Little died on the scene.
The driver of the ambulance -- a home health care nurse -- and the
patient in
the back of the ambulance were transported to Licking Memorial Hospital
with
injuries.
An EMT, who police identified as 42-year-old Bobbie Hendricks, was
seriously injured in the accident, and was air-lifted to OSU's Wexner
Medical Center. Her condition was not immediately known.
