Lancaster Adding Police Officers to Schools
Updated: Friday, February 8 2013, 07:49 PM EST
LANCASTER -- A central Ohio school district is redirecting funds to hire police officers to watch over its students.
Officers will soon patrol Lancaster's eight elementary and two junior high schools amid safety concerns in the wake of December's Sandy Hook shootings.
Superintendent Steve Wigton says the officers will be paid with money from a Workers Compensation fund.
District officials also plan to tighten security at school entrances by adding buzzer systems and cameras.
School administrators will receive special training in mid-February on how to deal with intruders, while the district's safety will be assessed in March.
