MORROW COUNTY--Two people were sent to the hospital after their van crashed Saturday afternoon. Cars were at a standstill for more than a mile on Interstate 71 southbound, just north of Delaware. Hundreds of drivers were stuck in traffic for nearly an hour.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, it happened after 3:00 PM. A driver swerved to avoid something in the road and hit the highway barrier. The van flipped.
Two people were inside. A woman was flown to Grant Medical Center and a man was taken to a hospital in Morrow County. As of Saturday evening, both are in critical condition.
While waiting in traffic, drivers told ABC 6/ FOX 28 they're worried about the two people hurt.
"I've been involved in an accident like that before once in high school, Jamie Castle said.
"When you've been waiting in traffic this long you know someone has been hurt pretty bad so it's a matter of being patient," Doug Althauser said.
Southbound traffic started moving again at 4:30 PM. Both lanes were open after 5:00 PM.
