Hilliard Neighborhood Targeted by Burglars

HILLIARD (Terri Sullivan) -- A quiet neighborhood on Hilliard's far east side has been targeted by crooks.
The crimes happened in the Scioto Run neighborhood, just off of Old Dublin Road, late Monday.
In both cases the burglar pried open a back door to the house and helped himself.
"It's a very close knit street," said Hilliard Police Chief Doug Francis.
"People are familiar with each other. So hopefully somebody saw something."
The chief says to discourage burglars from hitting your home, make it look lived in.
Pick up your newspaper and mail, and use timers on lights.
You might even consider leaving on a TV or radio for noise.
"Daytime burglaries 90% of the time are people walking up to the front door and ringing the doorbell. They want to know if someone's home. If someone answers the door or they see movement in the house, they walk somewhere else and look for another victim."
He says the key is to get them to just keep on walking.
If you have any information about the burglaries, call Hilliard Police.
