HEATH -- A man is behind bars in Newark, facing charges of burning and bruising a little girl.
Investigators say Terry Hoffer lives with the toddler's mother, and was the child's caretaker.
Daycare employees reported the girl's injuries to sheriff's deputies, prompting an investigation. Doctors soon determined the burns found on the child were intentional.
The girl's injuries included bruising on her back, arms, buttocks, and both ears, as well as burns on her hands, chest, and shoulder.
According to court records, the young victim's mother claims Hoffer, 27, -- who is wanted in Muskingum County on charges involving bad checks -- has an oxycodone habit.
Hoffer is scheduled to return to court on March 8.
