Fire Damages Newark Business

Updated: Wednesday, April 3 2013, 12:07 AM EDT
UPDATE (11:48 pm 4-2-13)

Newark --  No one was hurt after a fast-moving fire gutted a manufacturing warehouse off East Main Street in Newark.
The first 911 calls came in around 2:40 about smoke and flames pouring out of the Action Supply warehouse at 1149 East Main Street. Nearly 100 workers were able to escape safely and fire doors inside the building helped keep the flames from reaching connected buildings.
Investigators and firefighters remained on scene for several hours putting out hot spots and looking for a cause which as of late Tuesday night was still undetermined.

The fire elicited a huge response from firefighters in Newark and surrounding areas. Dozens of firefighters battled heavy smoke for hours before it was deemed safe to go inside the building.

Initially, fire officials were concerned with the roof potentially collapsing, but around 5 p.m. It was deemed structurally safe to enter.
Action Supply manufactures cleaning rags, and the warehouse was full of cloth bundles that are used as the base for them.

Investigators are expected to continue their search for a cause into the night and hope to have more information available Wednesday.
