Elderly Man Latest Victim in COTA Bus Assaults

COLUMBUS -- Police are on the hunt for a man who attacked a 71-year-old man, and tried to steal his cell phone while he was riding a COTA bus on Monday.

It happened on board a bus near the intersection of East 2nd Avenue and North High Street. In surveillance video you can see the suspect sit down behind the victim and start monitoring him as he used his cell phone. 

After about eight minutes, the suspect then forcibly reached for the phone, but the victim wouldn't let him have it. The suspect then punched the victim several times in the face before escaping. The victim suffered injuries to his face but is expected to be OK.

Police say the suspect is black, about 20 to 22 years-old, 5'8" and 180 pounds. He has a mustache and beard and was wearing dark rimmed glasses. If you have any information, please call the Columbus Police Robbery Unit at 614-645-4665 or Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477
