Dublin Rec Center Screening for Sex Offenders

DUBLIN -- Recreation center management is training staff to screen for registered sex offenders.
Dublin City Council unanimously approved the new policy last week for the Dublin Recreation center.
It has new software to cross-check identifications with state and national registered sex offender databases.
"This is more of an instant background check if you will that will give us the information we need," said Matt Earman, Director of Recreation Services for Dublin.
Everyone checking in must provide identification to use restricted areas including the rec center pool, track, locker rooms, and gym plus the city's two outdoor pools.
"If there's a positive match we will contact our local police department and work with them to verify that match and then identify the individual on premises and discreetly ask him to remove himself from the property," said Earman.
Earman says full implementation of the policy should happen within the next week.
