Updated: Thursday, April 11 2013, 05:26 PM EDT
COLUMBUS -- A Columbus police cruiser, rushing down the street just moments before a head-on crash, is in this dash cam video that was released today.

Its lights were flashing when suddenly it disappears from the camera's view.

One described the crash of the two Columbus police cruisers as an "explosion."

Two cruisers crashed head on in South Linden when they were both responding to a report of a person being robbed.

Officers Joseph Ritch and Matthew Mitchell were the Columbus police officers who were involved in the crash.

Mitchell had to be rescued out of his mangled car.  He continues to receive treatment at a Cincinnati area hospital.

Ritch, a 6 year veteran on the force, was released from the hospital a day after the crash.
