COSHOCTON -- The funeral for a Coshocton High School senior is set for Thursday and his friends from local boxing club “Rags to Riches” are remembering Matt Gadfield and raising money for his burial.
Gadfield was stabbed outside the Cedar Street Inn early Sunday. “It is heart wrenching,” said club owner Renee Fields. “We can’t imagine the boy we loved so much is gone.”
Vincent Moore, 23, of Coshocton is in jail on $750,000 bond in connection with Radfield’s murder. Also appearing from the jail by video in Municipal Court was Ryan Weneger, 20, charged with shooting his uncle David Gore in their shared home Friday night. Weneger’s bail was also set at $750,000 in connection with the alleged murder. The incidents this weekend were not related.
Lt. Dean Hettinger with the sheriff’s office said investigators are dealing with five homicides in recent weeks. Hettinger said the violence is taking a toll. “This stretch of murders we seem to be stuck in is very difficult.” Prosecutor Jason Given said it is a close community and people don’t expect murders. “We are not immune, we have to deal with it and give it resources any felony investigation needs.”
Tee shirts in remembrance of Gadfield are being made by his boxing club. Contributions are being accepted through Ohio Heritage Bank, according to the family. Gadfield was to have had his first amateur MMA fight next month.
