COLUMBUS -- In a surprise vote, the Columbus City School board voted Tuesday to halt its current search for a permanent Superintendent to replace outgoing Superintendent, Gene Harris, Ph.D.
The school board voted on a resolution that would allow the board to shift its focus to finding an interim Superintendent, and bring on Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman to co-chair a search committee for the next permanent Superintendent.
"My colleagues and I have been listening very closely to the community, seeking out thoughts and concerns relating to the future of Columbus City Schools," said Carol Perkins, Board President Columbus City Schools.
Current Superintendent Gene Harris announced her retirement effective at the end of this school year. The board hopes to have an interim Superintendent in place by July 1.
