WESTERVILLE -- Six people were arrested for their alleged participation in a credit card skimming ring that likely affected victims across central Ohio.
The Westerville Division of Police worked with the U.S. Secret Service to execute two search warrants Thursday that resulted in the arrests.
During the joint investigation, officers and agents found that employees at local businesses used electronic reading devices to steal, or 'skim', credit card numbers on to the magnetic strips of gift cards, according a City of Westerville media release.
Investigators are in the process of determining if the arrests will result in state or federal prosecutions.
The Columbus Division of Police, Delaware Co. Sheriff's Office, Delaware City Police, Powell Police Dept., and the Columbus and Franklin Co. SWAT teams also assisted in the investigation.
