COLUMBUS -- One person is in critical condition after crashing into a pole on East Livingston Avenue.
It happened around 5:45 am on March 16, 2013 at the intersection of E. Livingston Ave. and Fairwood Avenue.
The driver of the mangled car had to be extricated by fire and rescue personnel and was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition.
According to police the driver struck a pole that supports the traffic signals across E. Livingston Ave. The impact with the pole separated the rear end of the vehicle from the passenger compartment sending the gas tank approximately 100 feet across the road.
The vehicle came to rest in the front yard of a resident on E. Livingston Ave. It was first reported the car struck the home, but upon further investigation, it appears only debris hit the house.
The intersection was closed for over 3 hours while crews reconstructed the crash and cleaned up the wreckage. A red light camera is in use at this intersection, and it is unclear if the camera caught any footage of the accident.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and the identity of the driver has not yet been released.
