COLUMBUS -- It’s been said when you love what you do, it doesn’t feel like a job.
That has certainly been the case for Columbus Fire Department Captain Greg Lash.
But now, after four decades on the job, Captain Lash is saying goodbye.
His decision to retire is both emotional and speaks to his character.
“I don’t want to be a liability. I always want to be an asset and I can tell I'll be 64 this summer and your body starts to fail a little bit. So I don’t ever want to let anyone down”, Lash said.
Just one visit to Firehouse 1 and it’s easy to see, Captain Lash is only an asset to the department.
His fellow firefighters praise him for his expertise, attention to detail and overall good nature.
Fire Captain Scott Krummel summed it up by saying, “…to fill his shoes is going to be impossible.”
Captain Lash’s last day on the job is Monday, March 25th.
