CARROLL—A Central Ohio middle school will soon be gone for good. Demolition has begun on Bloom Carroll Middle School. Soon, the adjacent 1910 building will be torn down as well.
Just like their former classmates, Deb and Fred Silvia have been watching their old school come down piece by piece. Both Bloom Carroll Bulldogs, the two met in high school. They’ve been married for nearly 24 years. Even their kids went to Bloom Carroll.
"Both our girls are in the musicals and performed in that auditorium, so we had a lot of good times there,” Deb Silvia said.
They remember their favorite hangouts and even what they had for lunch.
“Haystacks--where they took corn chips and hamburger and mixed it all together with lettuce and cheese. The pizza was a close second,” Fred Silvia said.
The district decided it outgrew its middle school a few years ago and built one next door. All of the students moved out by Christmas break.
Though they’re happy future students have a new place to learn, couples like Deb and Fred say they still bleed purple and gold.
"I'd hate to see it go, I really do. I wish we could've saved it. Bottom line is we have to let go and move on,” Fred Silvia said.
