Bishop Watterson Students Protest Firing of Gay Teacher

Updated: Friday, April 26 2013, 07:15 PM EDT
COLUMBUS -- Two dozen Bishop Watterson students gathered outside the Columbus Catholic Diocese office on Friday morning to protest the firing of gay teacher Carla Hale.

Hale is fighting to get her job back after being fired for referring to her partner as her spouse in her mother's obituary.

The former phys-ed teacher was popular with Bishop Watterson students, many of whom demonstrated their support on Friday in Downtown Columbus.

”She loved all of her students," Zac Simmons said. "She’d do anything for us, and I want to return the favor by trying to get her job back.”

“Unless you're breaking the law, we’re taught to forgive and not to judge,” added Grant Stover.

Diocese representatives have not publicly responded to Friday's demonstration, nor have they commented on a video released by the hacktivist group Anonymous that threatens to find "skeletons" in the records of Diocese members if Hale is not reinstated.
