Autism Diagnoses on the Rise
Updated: Thursday, March 21 2013, 07:34 PM EDT
COLUMBUS -- A new statistic from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests one in every fifty American children has a disorder related to some type of Autism.
That is a noticeable change from only 6 years ago, when a survey of parents suggested one in 86 kids received a diagnosis.
Many attribute greater awareness to the spike in diagnoses.
Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence executive director Shawn Henry said coordination among state agencies and support from the governor’s office puts Ohio ahead of the national curve when it comes to Autism awareness.
Henry also said the there is always room for improvement in awareness, especially in minority communities.
