Airline Merger to Impact Port Columbus

COLUMBUS -- American Airlines flights could account for nearly a third of the departures from Port Columbus Airport once the carrier merges with US Airways.
The companies announced the deal Thursday.
An airport authority spokeswoman Angie Tabor said the two airlines combine for 44 departures each day to 9 destinations, with no overlap in destinations.
Tabor said that bodes well for the future of service from Port Columbus.
ABC News Travel and Lifestyle editor Genevieve Shaw Brown said extended route maps and more choices tend to be the positive points in airline mergers.
"Once US Airways and American Airlines merge their operations, it guarantees they will never again compete on a route," Shaw Brown said, pointing out that less competition will likely lead to higher ticket prices.
