8 YO Boy Hit By Truck, Dies

UPDATE: (From West Liberty Police Department) - On March 28, 2013 at approximately 9:56 am the West Liberty Police Department responded to the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 300 block of North Detroit St. in the village of West Liberty.
Through the investigation on scene officers learned that Colton Furrow, 8 years old from West Liberty had been struck by a 2008 GMC truck driven by Gene Rainsburg, 52 years old of Kenton, while attempting to cross the street with his brother.
Witnesses on the scene state that they observed the boys trying to cross the street in an area north of the intersection of E. Newell Street, and were not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash. Witnesses also report that there was heavy vehicle traffic prior to the crash.
Colton was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine where he was pronounced dead.
This crash remains under investigation by officers, however it has been determined that no criminal charges will be filed.
The West Liberty Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and the West Liberty Fire Department.
WEST LIBERTY -- An 8-year-old boy, who was crossing the street with his brother, was hit by a truck.
A man who near the scene was reportedly giving the boy CPR when first responders arrived.
The 8-year-old boy was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died.
The two boys were not in a crosswalk so the driver likely won`t be charged.
West Liberty police are investigating.
