Union Won't Support Fired Gay Bishop Watterson Teacher

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 01:48 AM EDT
COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- A gay teacher fired from a Catholic school after her female partner was publicly referenced will not received backing from her union as she fights to get her job back.

Former Bishop Watterson teacher Carla Hale and her attorney announced Monday the Central Ohio Association of Catholic Educators will not formally support her claim that she was unfairly fired in April after referring to her partner as her spouse in her mother's obituary.

Hale's attorney announced the formation of a website to solicit funds for the appeals process. The popular former phys-ed teacher will soon meet with the school's superintendent in her continuing effort to return to her position.

Hale's lawyer said money brought in via the fundraising website will be used to pay for the "expensive" arbitration process that will occur if the meeting with the superintendent fails to result in Hale's reinstatement.Union Won't Support Fired Gay Bishop Watterson Teacher
