Police Seek Closure in Decades-Old Grove City Murder Case

Updated: Friday, August 2 2013, 11:42 PM EDT
GROVE CITY (Steve Levine/Ken Hines) -- Police continue to search for a killer more than two decades after a single mother was beaten to death in her home.

Tracy Harkness, 24, was found by friends bludgeoned in her kitchen on November 6, 1992.

Grove City Homicide Det. Matt Ryan said Harkness was struck more than 30 times, possibly by someone she knew.

“Either had been invited in, or had been waiting for her,” Ryan said of Harkness's killer.

An FBI profile done on the killer several years ago determined the suspect was a local white male who may be unable to control his anger.

Police confirm there was no forced entry, and crime scene photos show Harkness's purse and valuables were left untouched.

“At the time, investigators found no link to robbery, burglary, or sexual assault,” Ryan said.

Police are hoping for a break later this year, when state forensics investigators are expected to begin using new hi-tech DNA testing procedures, which could move them closer to identifying a suspect.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Grove City Police at 614-277-1710.Police Seek Closure in Decades-Old Grove City Murder Case
