Thieves Targeting East Columbus Phone Store

Updated: Saturday, August 31 2013, 10:21 AM EDT
COLUMBUS (Steve Levine/Ken Hines) -- an East Side business owner is fighting back against thieves who have turned his store into a crime hot spot.

Since March, United Cell Phones on East Broad St. has been burglarized three times -- twice within the past month.

“They stole the phones, the computers, the laptop, phone accessories,” owner Abrahim Ahmed said.

Abrahim installed bars over his front door after thieves broke in a few months ago.

That didn’t stop two unidentified burglars, who late last month, broke into the store through a back door. And earlier this week, a hooded crook cut a hole through a vacant store wall next door, and ran off with thousands of dollars in valuables.

“This is not good for us, we are a small business,” Abrahim said.

The cell phone store is one of several businesses in its plaza which have been targeted by criminals over the past few weeks.

A smoke shop closed its doors earlier this month after burglars stole all the store's cigarettes, and a pizza shop was hit twice within two days.

It’s not known if any of the crimes are connected; Columbus Police are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call 614-645-4545.Thieves Targeting East Columbus Phone Store
