FIGHTING BACK: Neighbor Helps Police Nab Suspected Burglar

Updated: Tuesday, October 23 2012, 07:57 PM EDT
COLUMBUS -- A woman fought back against crime in the Linden area when she saw two men break into her neighbor's home.

Cynthia Williams was using her computer when she spotted a strange car heading toward a nearby driveway.

Williams says the actions of a man who exited the car quickly aroused her suspicions.

"When he first walked up to the door, he had his hand up his sleeve to touch the storm door. That got my attention. That's not right," Williams said. "Then when he used his shoulder to open the door, I knew that was not good."

As Williams watched from her home, she gave a 911 dispatcher a real-time account of the burglary.

"[He was] just throwing his whole body into the door, and when he busted the door in, the other guy got out, and then they both started carrying things out," she said. "Three TVs, stereo, and possibly a speaker box."

Officers soon arrived and apprehended a suspect in a nearby alley. The other suspect was able to escape.
