FIGHTING BACK: Cigarette Thieves Thwarted by Drive-Thru Owners

Updated: Monday, October 1 2012, 07:52 PM EDT
COLUMBUS -- Thieves were burned after a plan to steal cigarettes backfired, when the owners of a central Ohio drive-thru decided to "Fight Back".

The Baba Drive Thru at 2844 E. 5th Avenue was broken into for the third time early Monday morning.

Crooks ran off with thousands-of-dollars worth of cigarettes after each of the two previous break-ins.

This time though, owners were ready, leaving dozens of empty cigarette cartons as bait.

Security video shows a thief grabbing boxes, then quickly dropping them when he realizes they are empty. He then runs out of the store empty handed.

A group of masked crooks are believed to be responsible for a string convenience store and drive-thru burglaries around Columbus.

If you have any information, call Columbus Police 614-645-4545.
