COLUMBUS (Steve Levine/Ken Hines) -- As neighborhoods across central Ohio observe National Night Out, one East Side community is fighting back to reduce crime after a recent rise in violence.
Residents of the Driving Park neighborhood have seen a spike in violent crime this summer, including four homicides and at least a half-dozen shootings.
The most recent murder in the area occurred on August 5, when a person was found shot to death in a car in Miller Ave.
“We are tired of teenagers and others having guns,” Driving Park Civic Association President James Johnson said. “We got to deal with this better than we have in the past.”
Neighbors said they plan to meet in August to discuss ways to reduce loitering in the neighborhood, which they believe is contributing to the rash of crime in the area.
