CRIME OF THE WEEK: Police Investigate 2013 Homicide in South Columbus

Updated: Wednesday, January 1 2014, 02:17 AM EST
COLUMBUS (Camille Doty) -- Carnel Overby was shot multiple times inside his home on the 200 block of Highview Landing on Jan. 22.

Police responded to the call around 7:45 a.m.

Carnel was taken to the hospital and later died from his injuries. He was 20 years old.

Nacole Overby,  Carnel's mother, wants investigators to pull phone records to determine the last person he spoke with before he died.

She says he likely knew the shooter because there was no sign of forced entry into his apartment.

After months of praying and waiting, Overby received a phone call from Crime Stoppers to spotlight the case. She says she knows few details about the case.

Police say they need the right tips to fill in the missing holes.

"They're pieces of the puzzle that can help get the framework started," says Detective Gerald Milner. "It's up to the investigators to find out where they go."

Overby makes an emotional plea for someone to come forward with information.

"Just don't let his death go in vain," she says.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS.  Tips can also be sent via text to "CRIMES" 274637, keyword CMH.CRIME OF THE WEEK: Police Investigate 2013 Homicide in South Columbus
