CRIME HOT SPOT: Thieves Target Hilliard Neighborhoods

Updated: Friday, September 6 2013, 05:57 PM EDT
HILLIARD (Steve Levine) -- Thieves are now targeting Hilliard neighborhoods, breaking into cars and stealing GPS units, purses, cell phones and cash.

Over the past two weeks, more than two dozen cars have been hit; 12 vehicles were rummaged through within the past week.

“I am really surprised about that,” said Bob, who’s SUV, was broken into while it was parked in his driveway. Thieves stole change and a 9mm gun from Bob’s vehicle.

“It’s pretty crazy,” he said.

Hilliard Police say the break-ins are happening during the overnight hours and thieves are stealing pretty much anything they can get their hands on.

The majority of the time, crooks are getting inside because the doors are unlocked.

“Typically, what will occur is the person will walk an entire neighborhood and pull on door handles to see what they can find,” said Hilliard Sgt. Curtis Baker. “It’s just that easy.”
