30 Years Later, Police Continue Search for Grove City Mother's Killer

GROVE CITY (Steve Levine/Ken Hines) -- Police continue to search for a young mother's killer nearly 30 years after she was brutally beaten to death inside her Grove City home.
Kathleen Mechlin, 21, was found on her couch by her husband on February 10, 1984. Police said the husband told them he saw a silhouette of a person leaving the residence.
Mechlin -- a mother of two young children -- died a few days later at a nearby hospital.
Since Mechlin's death, homicide detectives have reviewed the case every few years, hoping to uncover new clues. So far, no suspects or leads have popped up.
“There are actually three key witnesses that are deceased now, which is making the case very difficult to solve,” Grove City Detective Jason Stern said.
Police hope they’ll get a break in the case later this year, when they plan to submit DNA evidence for new hi-tech testing at a state forensics lab.
Anyone with information is asked to call Grove City Police at 614-277-1700.
