Ohio workers' comp panel failed to give advice
March 21, 2010 11:26 EDT
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- The director of an embattled Ohio legislative panel bucked the position held by advisers when she declined to take a stand on a key injured workers' bill.
The staff analysis by the Ohio Workers' Compensation Council remained neutral on Senate Bill 213, a position that could be critical to the future of the fledgling panel.
Records reviewed by The Associated Press found that members of an advisory panel asked the staff to provide formal recommendations on the "overall merit" of pertinent bills.
But the staff's first analysis declined to make such a recommendation.
Ohio House hearings on the panel's work begin Wednesday.
The council gained attention after staffers fired last month accused Director Virginia McInerney of religious discrimination and wrongful discharge.
