Puppy Tossed out Like Trash Recovering from Much Needed Surgery

COLUMBUS (Tara Morgan) -- A pit bull-mix puppy found tossed out like trash is on the mend from a second surgery -- this time to repair a crooked leg.

The deformity is believed to have developed from the trauma of the fall back in May, after he was tossed into a trash bin in Franklinton.

Pet Promise Rescue, Rascal Animal Hospital, and now OSU Veterinary Hospital are giving Oscar the care he needs to start a new life.
Rascal Animal Hospital reached out to OSU after Dr. Michelle Gonzalez noticed Oscar's right leg was crooked. "As soon as I noticed it happening it's not a procedure we're able to offer at Rascal," said Dr. Gonzalez.

OSU Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jonathan Dyce took on the case. "Had we not done this he would have had a very poor functional -- if at all functional -- leg," said Dr. Dyce.

Dyce realigned Oscar's leg with the help of a metal plate. "It's like any surgery, you don't do it lightly, it's never a pleasant thing to go through, but the benefit for him in the long term is going to be colossal," said Dr. Dyce.

Oscar should recover in about six weeks.

No one has come forward about who is responsible for tossing the puppy in the trash in the first place.
