PATASKALA (Mike McCarthy/Sean Rowe/Chelsea Spears) -- It was a family effort; the husband and wife fought back while their granddaughter ran for help after a masked intruder broke into their Pataskala home early Tuesday morning, ABC6/FOX28's Mike McCarthy reports.

Both Licking County Sheriff's deputies and state troopers were on the scene of the home invasion in the 300 block of Edenderry Lane.

The wife said she woke up to a masked man hitting her husband with a gun in their bed. She said the intruder dragged her by the hair into the kitchen before leaving with some of their money.

The husband is being treated for cuts to his face and head, authorities said. His wife was not injured.

Authorities say the intruder broke in around 5 a.m., entering through the rear of the home. The husband and wife tried to fight off the intruder, who wore all black and a ski mask. In the meantime, their granddaughter ran for help.

The intruder managed to take some money and other items before taking off, McCarthy reports.Pataskala Husband, Wife Fight Back Against Intruder
