NEAR CHILLICOTHE (Dawn Faugl) -- A Ross County man is under arrest and facing several charges, after a standoff with Ross County deputies and a SWAT team.

Sheriff Lavender says Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation helicopter spotters saw marijuana plants growing at a property on Chester Hill Road. He says when investigators went to the house to question the owner, David Rutter, 59, answered the door with a gun.

Officers took cover and tried to talk him out of the house. They say Rutter started acting erratically, then fired at officers, who returned fire.

Eventually, negotiators were able to communicate with Rutter, who surrendered. He was flown to OSU Wexner Medical Center for what appeared to be a gunshot wound to one arm.

BCI is leading the investigation. The charges against Rutter have not yet been released.
