NORTH COLUMBUS (Terri Sullivan) -- Major changes are underway for one of Central Ohio's busiest intersections. Drivers are seeing new traffic patterns at I-270 and US 23 in North Columbus.

Right now orange barrels line High Street, north of I-270  for as far as the eye can see. Construction trucks are in non-stop action. "It's taking a while to get used to, but it actually hasn't been that bad for us," said Jason Williams, the young adult pastor at High Street Baptist Church.

The church sits right next to the I-270 and US 23 interchange. "There is a lot going on," said Williams. "Seems like they're doing something new every day. Traffic is getting a little more congested but it's summertime so we're used to that right now."

Churchgoers will have to get used to some new traffic patterns. ABC6 drove through some of the changes Monday. The loop from I-270 westbound to US 23 south is now closed, with I- 270 eastbound to US 23 north scheduled to close Monday night.

Starting Tuesday drivers will access US 23 north and south using the same ramp and a new traffic signal.
Williams expects some delays next Sunday. "People have been arriving a little bit later. However the experience hasn't been too bad for most of us." But he says safety is the main thing, and that ODOT has been a big help adjusting a nearby traffic light, so drivers can get in and out.

"We're definitely looking forward to the end goal which is safer for everybody around us. That's something we're looking forward to."

All the work is expected to be completed by 2016.
