COLUMBUS (Steve Levine) -- From the corner of Parsons Avenue and Gates Street Leah Moehlman, points to where refreshment and information booths will be set up for her neighborhood block watch group's first community National Night Out event this weekend.

"The tables of food will be over in this area," said Leah, who helped create The South Central Commons Block Watch last fall with several other neighbors, when they noticed similar problems in the neighborhood. "It started pretty basic, like most block watches, small crime, petty thefts."

Ten months later, more than 100 peiople are part of the south east Columbus group. One of the newest members, Daniel McCarthy, is already being put to work, putting up a National Night Out banner on the building of his eatery, "Tatoheads Public House".

The former Chicage resident moved into a home on Parsons Avenue earlier this month, and opened up the restaurant right next door.

"I've grown up in a lot of different neighborhoods that have seen better days, I want to be a part of these better days," said McCarthy.

Neighbors say since they started the block watch last fall, they are already seeing a difference on the street. "I know more of my neighbors now," said Leah.
